Board declines to recommend zoning use change
The Seekonk Planning Board declined to recommend a zoning change that would let municipal and recreational buildings, including athletic fields, bypass special permit review townwide.
Planning Board · Meeting of October 27, 2026
SEEKONK — The Seekonk Planning Board declined to recommend a zoning change that would let municipal and recreational buildings, including athletic fields, bypass special permit review townwide. A motion to give town meeting a negative recommendation on the petitioned amendment to Section 4.2.2 drew ayes, with no opposition heard and one abstention. One board member recused herself as a petitioner in the matter.
Neighbors of the Medeiros Farm recreation project, including residents Ken Kazarian and Cynthia Ward of Kenwood Court, argued the change was designed to clear the way for a project they estimated could cost $13 million to $14 million without adequate traffic, safety or maintenance review. The board separately voted, with no opposition, to recommend the Select Board accept Matt's Way, a newly paved road in the Brigham Farm III subdivision, as a public way. Town Planner John Aubin also briefed the board on a SNEP-funded feasibility study for a possible stormwater utility fee, noting roughly 140 to 150 stormwater outfalls identified townwide so far.
