Seekonk Select Board Restores Car Dealer's License Limit, Promotes Fire Lieutenant

SEEKONK — December 4, 2019 — Seekonk Select Board reinstates car dealer's inventory limit and debates closed cable access elections. The board voted unanimously to restore the 50-vehicle Class 2 license for Siganco Auto Center owner John Nassar at 1810 Fort River Avenue, reversing an 18-car reduction — roughly 36 percent of his capacity — imposed at the previous meeting over site-plan compliance and sight-line concerns. The board also unanimously promoted Kyle LaPrade to fire lieutenant, approved a conservation restriction on 8.3 acres at 360 Prospect Street held by the Seekonk Land Conservation Trust, accepted a $1,431 donation from the Wampanoag Rod and Gun Club, and renewed all 2020 alcohol, entertainment, amusement machine, and motor vehicle dealer licenses. Resident Peter Hugazil of 60 Fern Cliff Road returned to the board with an update that the Seekonk Cable Board of Directors voted six to zero in November to keep its board election process closed, with members electing one another rather than standing for election by subscribers. Board members acknowledged they have no direct authority over the private corporation but indicated the upcoming Comcast franchise contract renewal may be the most viable point at which to press for change.
